This Mexican red bird of paradise, also called Pride of Barbados, and Dwarf Poinciana is a variety with deep red flowers with long showy red stamens. A fast growing shrub or small tree native to the West Indies. The flowers are arranged on racemes and can have as many as 40 flowers per flower stalk. The foliage is fine textured, similar to Mimosa spp. and is light green in color. Caesalpinia pulcherrima can freeze back in the winter but it will quickly sprout back in the spring. It is heat and drought tolerant and can grow to 6' by 6'. This plant is great for desert look with color.
