Originating from Madagascar, Royal Poinciana (or Flamboyant Tree or Flame Tree) is the world's most colorful tropical tree. It is without doubt a magnificent tree and virtually everyone falls in love with it at first sight! For several weeks in spring and summer it is covered with bright fiery red/orange blossoms. Up close the individual flowers are absolutely striking. Even when not in bloom, with its graceful form and fernlike foliage, it is still one of the most beautiful trees in the world.
Hardy in zones 10-12, Royal Poinciana is very fast growing, about 5 feet per year until maturity at 30-40 feet, and tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions. This tropical beauty is also well suited to pot culture, so even if you don't live in a tropical zone you can have fun growing this amazing plant. Surprisingly easy to grow from seed.
Sowing instructions:
Place seeds in boiling water. After a couple of minutes add cld water to drop the temperatur to hot but not boiling. Let them soak for 24 hours. Sow seeds in moist seeding mix covering with 3 times their thickness. Place in warm location best on top of refriderator. Germination occurs then in 2-3 days.
